Fly Fishing Paradise!

There may not be a more dynamic fishery in the lower 48 than the lakes and streams just thirty minutes from our back door in Northern Montana.  I read recently about a fellow who had successfully fished Alaska’s Yukon  River and caught many rainbows in the six to eight pound range.  We fished those “thirty minute” waters this past summer and caught ‘bows in the 8- 10 pound range I kid you not.

Fishing in the Paradise of the Blackfeet Reservation

If you’re looking for a truly unique fishing experience in a piece of this country that still produces big trout, few fishermen, and the most genuine hospitality anywhere then maybe you’ve found your version of paradise. I sure think so. And if you’ve been guests of ours at Bear Creek Ranch in the past you know there’s no talking falsely.

As you can see we are planning on beginning our Spring fishing season on Sunday, May 5th. We’re hoping to attract four guests who have an interest in fly fishing and do have some experience under their belts. You’ll be staying in one of our guest cabins and will be treated to Diana’s meals twice a day and with lunch out on the water. Plan on fishing from dawn to

dusk!

Most of the fishing we’ll do will be on small, medium, and large lakes, all very rich in

insect life. Plan on fishing with nymphs, wet flies, and streamers early in the season with dry flies added by later May and early in the fall. I rarely fish from anywhere but the banks on those lakes as most of the fish are close to shore as they emerge from ice-out and into spawning not long after. Chest waders are recommended and float tubes optional although effective.

Depending on the lake being fished the size and specie of trout will

vary. There are several lakes that if fished well can produce 2- 5 pound rainbow or brown trout. I have fished two lakes that don’t produce small fish. They are all big with some exceeding 10 pounds.  Be prepared to use heavier leaders and stout rods!

We do practice a catch and release policy and take care to release fish

unharmed.   Fish can be mounted by our taxidermist with photos and length and girth measurements before release. We like to get the fish back into water within three minutes.

So there you go!  I am as excited as one can be. We’ve got a good winter ahead of us but what else is new!  Spring will come and so will big trout. You are going to love the fishing, the camaraderie, and the big country we live in.  And not to mention the comfort you’ll feel back at the ranch.

We’re taking four guests on our first week, four singles or two couples. The price is $3995 per person or $7495 per couple. Feel free to call me here at 406-226-4489 or message as well. You will have thoughts and questions to share so don’t be shy! By the way, the trout will be in “spawn” when you arrive. We will catch fish!

With any luck we’ll see you this Spring. Here’s to tight lines.
